Machete is back and according to the title, this time he kills (which is pretty much what he did in the first movie, but who am I to judge the film’s title). The first Machete film was a fun enough little romp through mexiploitation, with Machete getting framed for murder. Danny Trejo was however not the star in this film and he played the strong, semi silent type while the rest of the cast chewed up the scenery around him. Maybe now with Machete Kills it’s time for Danny to be let loose on the screen with wall to wall machete action. Here is the plot layout and again it seems a great and can we go so far as to say very cheesy OTT story that only Machete can sort out.
In MACHETE KILLS, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.
Here is the latest trailer for Machete Kills. See what you think.
As usual, this film is crammed full of name actors, the cast ranging from the likes of Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr, Edward James Olmos, William Sadler, and Mel Gibson. The first Machete had very strong cast of female characters as well, and it seems the sequel will do much of the same with many of the cast (Lady Gaga especially) getting a kind of Sin City make over.
It certainly looks pretty cool with everyone getting a great grind house intro in this trailer. Charlie Sheen has carried on the family tradition by becoming President, a role his father Martin Sheen enjoys on The West Wing for 7 years.
It’s obvious that this film still has a sense of humor to with Machete getting hung at the start, and then saved by the President as he just shrugs it off. Aside from Black Dynamite I cannot think of any other new film character that oozes so much machismo as Machete. I will leave you with some of the fantastic poster art for this movie and check back with Grizzly Bomb for more information when it arrives.
Machete Kills will open on September 13th. I am expecting more of the same and using the sequel principle I am expecting a lot more machete slashing action. Now this is out of Roberts’s system maybe he can get working on the Sin City sequel………just saying no rush!
