This year we lost the pop culture icon that was David Bowie. People will have celebrated his life in many different ways, from his music, right through to his film career. For me however, remembering Bowie meant delving once again into one of my all-time favorite films, Labyrinth.

It was revealed Tuesday that Geoff Johns, DC’s chief content officer, and Jon Berg, executive VP, would together be running a new arm of the company called DC Films, giving those two greater control regarding the use of DC Comics’ properties on the big screen. This is seen as the muted response to Batman v. Superman versus the recent Captain America: Civil War buzz. I worked a lot of years behind a video store counter, and if you take the words “yoga enthusiasts” out of the above description, it could describe several 1980s genre movies. However, times have changed, and attaching Kevin Smith, Johnny Depp and a slew of other recognizable names to a project like this has drawn the ire of a lot of critics. For some, fond memories of Clerks and Chasing Amy now seem a lifetime ago, and plenty of once loyal Smith-fanatics are jumping ship. This movie isn’t likely to stop that exodus.

Back before Tim Miller was directing his record-breaking smash hit Deadpool, he was one of the guiding forces behind developing the animated adaptation of Eric Powell’s comic series The Goon.
David Fincher signed on to produce the film in 2008 , working off a script from Powell himself, and recruited Miller to co-direct the project along with Jeff Fowler. The effort eventually culminated with a trailer length release of some test footage in 2012, not unlike the video that gained a large enough viral following to get Deadpool off the ground. However, unlike what happened with Deadpool, that was the last anyone heard about the project.

I saw Captain America: Civil War opening night and despite popular opinion, I was a bit disappointed.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s leaps and bounds better than the majority of other Marvel Cinematic Universe films, but I think the hype got to me and I left a little underwhelmed. So, if you loved it (and you probably did), don’t yell at me, I loved it too, my disappointment couldn’t outweigh my enjoyment. But I do have a few things I’d like to address…
