The Dark Defender Will Strike For At Least Two More Seasons!

According to Screen Junkies, Showtime‘s best suspenseful crime-drama series Dexter will continue running for at least two more seasons. These upcoming additions will be season 7 and season 8 for the show.

Although the current season 6 is getting the highest ratings of any season of Dexter so far, there is still some skepticism as to how the show will remain relevant. The one main issue that I believe this show has is that you can’t get extremely attached to characters who are close to Dexter because somehow many of them die. I was devastated with the Rita situation. When all of that happened, I had nightmares for weeks. Now, when there is a character added to the show (Brother Sam, for example) I find myself detached and not caring much about them, because I know ahead of time that they are going to die. How much loyalty can a fan have in a show if they don’t necessarily care about the characters? I feel like if they had more consistent likeable cast members, I would be more hopeful about the upcoming seasons.

Backing my theory up:

Rita - DEAD
Brother Sam - DEAD

Dexter: Season 6, Episode 6 – “Just Let Go” Review

Recap: This episode of Dexter begins with Dexter stalking Travis hoping he will lead him to Professor Gellar. Dex gets a call from Deb and she tells him that Brother Sam has been shot and is in the hospital, sending Dexter away from his personal mission. He quickly makes it to Brother Sam’s crime scene. He remembers hitting one of the thugs he came across in Sam’s shop with a baseball bat. After analyzing the blood on the bat, he finds a match. Leo Hernandez.

Dexter goes to visit Brother Sam after learning that he himself may be responsible for the shooting. He also goes to a gathering of locals praying for Brother Sam.

Notive that Geller doesn't interact with anyone but Travis...

Batista and Quinn are digging deeper into Professor Gellar’s past to try to find something useful. Deb notices in one of the old newspapers that there is a photo of a girl with a Hindu tattoo on her lower back. At that point, Quinn realizes that the girl in the photo is the same chick he porked from the bar… Carissa Porter. Quinn and Batista now have to bring her in for questioning. Awkward!

It is very endearing to see how emotionally attached Dexter is to Brother Sam. They both have a darkness inside of them. I think that at this point, Dexter looks up to Sam for being capable of putting his “dark passenger” to the side.

‘Arrested Development’ and It’s Much Deserved Return

Arrested Development is an anomaly of sorts. I’ve never seen a show talked about so little while it was on, and then so much after it was canceled. Simply put – the show was great, and like so many great shows, it garnered no widespread appreciation until it was gone. Despite letter writing and widespread begging by the small, but loyal fan base, FOX canceled the show midway through its 3rd season.

Stephen King’s ‘Under the Dome’ Heading to Showtime

Stephen King and Steven Spielberg teamed up awhile back to bring King’s Under the Dome story to a TV network for a limited series. Now that story has found a home on Showtime, which is really for the best because now they can do anything they want without being constrained by the rules of network television. The story of Under The Dome may sound a little dumb because the same sort of thing happened in the Simpsons Movie, but I’m sure that King was writing his book before the Simpsons Movie was released… hopefully.

Basically there is a small town in Maine where a force field dome of unknown origin covers the town, sealing them off from the outside world. What happens next is a deterioration of relationships between the townsfolk as they break up into warring factions. I’d classify the story as an extended version of the King short story The Mist where townsfolk slowly begin to turn on one another, stuck inside a supermarket due to the horrible monsters lurking in the unnatural mists outside. The threat is a lot different in this book, but the concept is basically the same, showing how malicious ordinary people can be in dire circumstances when there is no order.

By the way, I would never want to live in Maine if all of King’s books were real, there is some jacked up $hit that happens in that state, especially in the small towns. To me, the ending reveal of exactly what is causing the dome was awesome. Some may find it foolish, but it all depends on what you like from a King book, whether it be supernatural, extra terrestrial or governmental. Either way I think the series will be excellent on Showtime and can’t wait to hear about casting when it starts.

Dexter: Season 6 Panel!

So as the San Diego Comic Con rages on, news on some of our favorite shows will start to come out, and Dexter is on that list.  Now we had already told you about Colin Hanks and Mos Def joining the cast, but I did not know till I watched the trailer that Battlestar Galactica-alum Edward James Olmos would be appearing as well.

And from Dexter GR, here is some footage from the Dexter panel:

DIRT ON DEXTER! – Season 6 to feature Colin Hanks & Mos Def

He is the blood spatter analyst we love to watch murder people. He stabs his way into his victims… and our hearts. Of course, I am talking about DEXTER! That’s right, our favorite serial killer-killer is coming back to Showtime this fall, and is bringing a famous Hollywood son into the mix.

Colin Hanks (Mad Men, The Good Guys), the son of Tom Hanks (Forest Gump, the guy who made BFFs with a Volleyball), is joining the cast of Dexter for Season 6. His character details were kept under tighter wraps than Dexter’s victims up until one website leaked some information. According to TV Somniac, Hanks will be playing Travis, Dexter’s main nemesis: a highly intelligent expert on ancient artifacts who gets linked to a series of grisly murders in Miami.
